 SALVATION

Who Saves me?

When Jesus Christ died on the cross of Calvary, His blood was shed as "The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!" (John 1:29).  God made Jesus "who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." (2 Corinthians 5:21).  When The Lord Jesus Christ took our sins upon Himself on the cross and died, He paid the full penalty for our sins that we owed and satisfied the requirements that God's justice demanded.

If you don't accept Jesus's salvation, then you cannot see the Kingdom of God and you cannot go to heaven because your sins remain with you (John 3:3).  "He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” (John 3:36).  We have the freedom to choose to reject or accept Jesus's salvation; however, we don't have the power to choose the eternal consequences of that decision.

Furthermore, Jesus's perfect righteousness was imputed (credited) to us, just as if we had not sinned (Isaiah 61:10).  "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12).  Jesus is the ONLY way to God - Jesus said “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through Me." (John 14:6).

How can I receive salvation?

Salvation is a gift from God to us, and it is by grace because we couldn't earn it and didn't deserve it - Jesus paid the price for it, and God gave it to us.  Our part is to receive this gift by simply believing that Jesus died for our sins and depending on His righteousness which is now accounted (imputed) to us.  "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9).

If you believe in your heart that Jesus died for your sins, then you need to confess with your mouth to God that you have sinned, ask Him for forgiveness and ask Him to cleanse you of your sins by the blood of Jesus.  "If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9).

You must also repent.  Repent means simply to decide to turn away from sin and evil and do what God says is right - i.e. change of heart and change of ways.  The Holy Spirit is our Helper and will help you because God knows that we cannot do it on our own, however, we need to be willing to allow Him to transform us (John 14:15-18; Romans 8:26-27).  Jesus requires repentance and not just remorse.

You also need to confess with your mouth that Jesus is your Lord.  If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
